Tracking Your Vehicle With MVS

Understanding Vehicle Shipment Tracking with MVS Canada

At MVS Canada, we understand that knowing the location and status of your vehicle during shipment is important for peace of mind. To provide clarity and set the right expectations, here’s how our tracking system works and what you can expect at each stage of your vehicle’s journey.

1. How Tracking Information is Collected

Carrier Updates

We work with a network of carriers who provide us with updates on shipments. Many of the trucks and trains carrying vehicles are equipped with GPS systems, but due to security protocols, this GPS information is typically restricted to dispatchers. For this reason, real-time tracking is not directly available to customers.

Batch Tracking

To improve efficiency, we request tracking information in batches. This approach allows us to receive updates on hundreds of vehicles from multiple carriers at once, which we then relay to you. As a result, updates may not be instantaneous, but we aim to provide you with a new status at least once every 5 business days.

2. What Tracking Updates Include

Approximate Locations

Each update gives an approximate location of your vehicle based on the most recent information from the carrier. Exact locations are not always available for security and logistical reasons, but we strive to keep you informed of your vehicle’s general progress.

Estimated Timelines

Along with location updates, we provide estimated arrival times and next milestones. Please keep in mind that these estimates are based on the latest available information and may change due to factors like weather, traffic, or scheduling adjustments by the carrier.

3. How Frequently Will I Receive Updates?

Our Goal

We aim to provide a tracking update at least once per week (every 5 business days). Even if you don’t see daily updates, rest assured that our team is actively monitoring your shipment.

Email Notifications

You will receive an email each time there is an update on your online tracking page, so you don’t need to frequently check the status manually. We will notify you as soon as we have new information.

4. Why Real-Time GPS Tracking Isn’t Available

Security Considerations

For security reasons, the exact GPS location of shipments is typically restricted to dispatch teams. This helps protect your vehicle while it’s in transit and minimizes risks associated with sharing real-time locations.

Information Reliability

We rely on updates from carriers, which are processed and verified before being shared with you. This ensures that the information you receive is accurate and reflects the actual status of your shipment.

5. Our Commitment to You

Transparency and Communication

At MVS Canada, we are committed to keeping you informed throughout the shipping process. If there are any unexpected delays or changes in your vehicle’s journey, our team will proactively communicate these to you.

Dedicated Monitoring

Even between updates, our team is continually monitoring all shipments to ensure that each vehicle is on track and to quickly address any issues that may arise.

Using Third-Party Tracking Devices for Vehicle Shipments

We understand that some customers may wish to use third-party tracking devices, like Apple AirTags or built-in GPS systems, to follow their vehicle’s journey in addition to our tracking system. MVS Canada welcomes the use of these devices to provide extra peace of mind, but we ask that you keep a few important considerations in mind:

1. Disclosure of Tracking Devices

Safety and Privacy Requirements

If you plan to use a third-party tracking device, such as an AirTag or any other GPS-enabled device, please disclose this to your MVS Canada agent before shipping. Knowing in advance allows us to address any potential privacy or safety concerns that may arise for all vehicles, customers, and carriers involved in the shipping process.

2. Limitations of Third-Party Tracking Devices

Signal Interference

When vehicles are inside railcars or enclosed trailers, GPS signals can often be obstructed, resulting in inaccurate or intermittent tracking data. This is a common issue with any device relying on satellite signals and is not unique to our shipping process.

False Location Updates

Due to the nature of these enclosed spaces, tracking devices may temporarily report inaccurate locations, leading to confusion. If your device shows unexpected information, please keep in mind that this may not reflect the actual location or status of your vehicle.

3. Vehicle Availability for Pickup

Arrival vs. Availability

If your tracking device shows that your vehicle has arrived in the destination area, please understand that it does not mean the vehicle is immediately ready for pickup. Once a shipment arrives at a terminal, several steps need to occur:

Unloading and Inspection

Vehicles must be unloaded from railcars or trailers and inspected for any potential damage.

Documentation Processing

We must create and process release documents to ensure your vehicle can be handed over smoothly.

Pick-up Instructions

After completing these steps, our team will send you specific pickup instructions. These instructions confirm that your vehicle is ready and provide important details about where and when you can collect it. Please wait for this confirmation, as many terminals only operate during business hours and may have specific requirements for customer pickups.

4. Our Commitment to a Seamless Experience

We support your choice to use third-party tracking devices and are committed to keeping you informed throughout the journey. Our team works diligently to provide reliable updates, and we ask for your patience as we coordinate the logistics that ensure your vehicle arrives safely and is ready for you to pick up.

If you have questions about using third-party tracking devices or our tracking procedures, please reach out to us. We’re here to help make your vehicle shipping experience as transparent and worry-free as possible.
