Things to know when shipping your car in the winter

The winter season can add many challenges and problems when moving cars across Canada. Here’s a short list of things to keep in mind when shipping your vehicle during the winter months.

  • Weather Delays: Snow storms and avalanches can close roads, major highways and the rail lines during the winter so be prepared for possible delays.
  • Don’t put presents inside your vehicle: If your shipment is delayed for any reason, those presents may not make it under the tree in time for Christmas.
  • Holiday Schedules: Truck drivers have families and most want to spend the holidays at home instead of on the road. Expect transit times to be longer from Mid December to Mid January.
  • Salt, Gravel and Dirt on the roads: As any car owner knows, your vehicle can get really dirty in the winter months as the roads are covered in mud, salt and gravel. When shipping on the open trailers and trains, your vehicle can also get very dirty as it’s exposed to the elements while its being moved. If you have a high end vehicle you may want to ship by the enclosed trailers as it’s the only way to protect the vehicles exterior.
