How Your Vehicle Will Be Shipped From Canada To Germany

Your vehicle will be transported inside a shipping container along with other vehicles to reduce the overall cost of shipment, or in its own container for a higher cost but faster transit time. Specially trained operators will load your vehicle inside the container and safely strap and chock your vehicle so that it does not move during transport.

Our reputable contacts only transport using shipping companies that specialize in vehicle shipments, so you can rest assured that your vehicle is in trusted hands.

Export and Import Your Vehicle With Peace Of Mind

Before your vehicle departs, all the correct Canadian customs paperwork will be filled out on your behalf, including any security checks that may need to be completed to ensure the export process is as smooth as possible.

Upon landing in Germany, the container holding your vehicle will be trucked directly to a customs bonded warehouse where it will be carefully unloaded using ramps and prepared for customs clearance. All paperwork will then be processed on your behalf and specially trained officers will ensure that you pay only the VAT / Duty fees that apply to your vehicle; once this total has been worked out, you will be notified of the cost and you can pay this directly to customs.

Important Information Regarding Importing Vehicles To Germany From Canada

Registering Your Vehicle in Germany

Vehicles staying in Germany for longer than 6 months must be registered at the your local vehicle registration office (Kfz-Zulassungsstelle) and pass a technical inspection for roadworthiness and safety, as well as an emissions control test. This may mean that your car may need to be modified to meet German standards regarding things such as headlights, emissions, brakes, rust, and tires.

To register the imported vehicle you will need the following:

  • Passport or other identification

  • Proof of official address registration in Germany

  • Customs clearance papers

  • Export permit

  • Proof of ownership

  • Original vehicle registration papers

  • Certification from the German Federal Motor Vehicle Registry indicating the vehicle has not been registered in Germany before

  • Proof of insurance

  • Proof the vehicle has successfully completed the safety and roadworthiness inspection and emissions control test

Car Import Taxes And Duty

A vehicle imported to Germany from outside the European Union is normally subject to a 10% import duty and a 19% import value-added tax (VAT), called ‘import turnover tax’ or Einfuhrumsatzsteuer. Antique vehicles are subject to a VAT of only 7% of the vehicle value.

The import duty and VAT must be paid, unless you fulfill all of the following conditions:

  • You are moving to Germany as a full-time resident.
  • You have given up residency in your home country.
  • You have been residing outside of Germany for at least 12 consecutive months prior to your arrival.
  • The vehicle is registered in your name.

  • You do not sell or export the car for 12 months after importing it.
